The opportunity
Gel packs are everywhere: injury care, surgery recovery, pharmacy mail-order, food delivery and sports. Most rely on synthetic gel, warm unevenly, and are thrown away. DuraTherm offers a cold pack that holds its cold more evenly and longer, made from water, cotton and a trace of borax.

Products
Reusable DuraTherm packs
Small, medium and large packs for medical cooling, sports and home use, shipped filled and ready to freeze. Target operating range: 34–50°F.
Single-use pharmacy pack
A throwaway pack for mailed medications, designed to compete with the packs pharmacies use today, with a landed-cost target under 24 cents per pack. The first target customer is VA pharmacy shipping.
Manufacturing
- Ship dry, add water late. Cotton and borax are packed dry in shells and shipped light; water is added close to where packs are used, so only the last mile carries the weight.
- Automated hydration. A compact filling machine, under 800 lb, fills packs under water, sets each to a target weight, and caps them.
- Single-use packs. Formed in molds with the bag preset inside and frozen on site or at a nearby cold-storage warehouse.
- Materials. Non-medical-grade cotton sliver, scoured, cut to length. No superabsorbent polymers.
Where we are
- Patent pending.
- Prototype packs built and tested: two earlier tests and the 14-hour, 62-pack infrared test.
- Working with SCORE mentors on the business plan and funding.
- Next: the controlled 20-pack test, customer conversations with VA procurement, and selecting a shell manufacturer.
